Blogs, Wikis, RSS Feeds, Jing--Delcious

For more than 10 years, SEED 415 students put together homepages. A homepage might still be useful, but there are lots of other tools that might suit your classroom purposes better, e.g., the blogs that you started creating last week. Which of these many tools do you think you are most likely to use in the classroom? Why? Of the resources Todd talked about, which are new to you? Which seem particularly promising?

  1. I think the Wiki and the RSS feed seemed the most promising to me. The pageflakes page looked very good and I can see a lot of use for it in the classroom. Having the kids fill out a quick summary of class or questions that they have in the wiki or other technology that they may use would be a great tool in any classroom. I had not heard of a few of the things he talked about but I had heard of many other technologies that I would like to incorporate into the classroom.

  2. There are so many tools that teachers have available now, it is almost overwhelming. It's hard to wrap my mind around how many different ways these tools can be used. Things like as making a video/slide show are now extremely simple. This is also something that I think is would grab the interest of high school or middle school students just because of it's visual appeal. Another thing that I think might be extremely helpful is creating wiki's. I know one of the reasons that I wasn't particularly fond of group projects in high school was because of the hassle of getting group members together to meet. With things such as wiki, group projets can be made simple.

  3. I jotted down a bunch of quick notes and will have to play around some, but I could see using:

    Jing - to make instructions
Archive.org - to get a hold of some cool stuff.
Toon Doo - I think this might make for a fun assignment
YouTubeU / itunes U - Both of these sounded promising for sharing outside lectures.
gcast - another fun homework assignment possibility.

    The possibilities are endless.

  4. I like a lot of these ideas presented from todays class. We have been using wikis in another class and I like them a lot. I believe they can work very well to allow students to interact, and use technology to work together from home. I also enjoyed the archive website because I believe its a way for students to see somethings from the past, and make it more real for them. There are a lot of materials available to help students learn, and I plan to use many different methods.

  5. I think there are a couple of ways of working around the difficulty you might have with internet in the schools in order to use the media like animoto and toondoo. I like both of them and think they are a creative way to reach some students who would rather be doodling or on youtube than anywhere near the textbook! they are easy ways to identify terms simply and help them remember. The example for toondoo is with the pyramids... calling them the triangles of giza...it can work if you help those who have internet access outside of school pair up with students who don't.-Amber
