Environment is one of the most important factors in teaching. In my opinion, if a student walks into a bad learning environment, it is going to take away almost everything about what you are teaching. Creating a good environment for a classroom is vital. I think that I will be good at creating an optimistic atmosphere. I hate it when people are "downers." There is nothing that annoys me more. I think I will be able to find a positive in something no matter how bad the conditions are. If I am having a bad day, I don't think I let it rub off on other people. Something that I might have to work on is the physical environment of a classroom. I am not a very artistic or creative person. Therefore, things such as posters and artwork to fill my walls might be difficult. I understand that this is also an important aspect of the environment of your classroom, that is why you can buy things instead of making them.

ReplyDeleteStudent-teacher repetoire is one of the most
important elements in creating a well rounded classroom environment. For example, positive student-teacher communication creates an environment conducive to learning and student participation. I think that student-teacher repetoire is one of my strongest assets. I think that humor in classrooms, especially sarcastic, dry humor is a critical element in any classroom. Humor is relatable across cultures and across classrooms. If students look forward to class, success is almost inevitable. Something that might prove to be a challenge is "praying" for students. While I am a compassionate person, I have incredibly high expectations. If a student is struggling and I cannot find an immediate solution to help said student, I might be challenged to immerse myself from the point of view of the student.
I think I will be able to get my students to feel comfortable in the classroom through the use of humor. Whether the joke is on me or the subject we are studying, I couldn't agree more with TSSFFAP that humor is an important part of the classroom environment.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to helping students loosen up and have fun, it will also help set the mood. By partaking in some lighter moments, it will help the class understand/deal with the somber tone of the more serious subjects as well.
Like a "ying yang effect".
The classroom environment is so very important to increase motivation, and create a level of trust. Being yourself is so important because if you show up and fake it students can tell, and that will not aid in creating a good classroom environment. I feel I will be very good at breaking the proscenium arch, because I am very good a poking fun at myself. This will help my students to see me as the regular real genuine person I am.
ReplyDeleteWhere I struggle is with touch, I like the idea of high fives, and handshakes, I particularly enjoy the secret Marmorstein handshake, but this is not something I normally do. I will work to get students to do these types of things to keep them awake, and in a way break the ice at the beginning of class.

The Student-Teacher relationship can be the hardest and most rewarding area of the classroom environment. While I can rearrange desks, put up posters, and find interesting games or activities to involve students in; there is no alternative to sincerity.
ReplyDeleteA solid relationship can grow through sincerity. Wanting students to do well should not end where your classroom door ends- or even where the school door ends!Connecting with students makes it easier. One of my coworkers (a senior in high school) told me that the most remarkable teachers he ever had were the ones who showed they cared about him as a person, a student, a football player, and a drum musician.

I think that the Student-Teacher relationship is the most important key to the class. I believe that most of this can be accomplished by being genuine with your students and to personally strive to be the best teacher that you can be. I think that I do have some of these strengths. Humor can be a very effective way to relate to a class. Learning how to communicate with people and working on methods that will keep the students focused in your class will help you create an environment that will help you to be successful. I think that the main goal for a teacher is to create an environment that is conducive for learning and I think the major element that goes into doing that is to be genuinely interested in the advancement of those students.
